Sarah Jang

장세라

Nickname: Squirrel

Sarah grew up in Seoul, South Korea. She initially enrolled in Chungbuk National University as a Chemistry.  She conducted impactful undergraduate research in Professor Kitae Kim’s lab on releasing fluorescein via nucleic acid interactions, resulting in a publication. Later, she participated as an intern in Professor Yan Lee’s lab at Seoul National University, where she investigated prodrugs based on GCDIs (guanidine cyclic diimides). These research experiences sparked her growing interest in organic synthesis and catalysis.

In July 2024, she joined Lee’s group and since September 2024, she has been pursuing her graduate studies in the integrated Ph.D. program. She is currently working on developing new reactions using cyclopropenimine-based ligands. She is particularly interested in both reaction development and the fundamental properties of these ligands.

Outside of the lab, Sarah enjoys playing the violin, building Lego models and wooden crafts, and taking pictures of geese. She also loves traveling to experience the local culture and natural beauty of different places.
